I lately thought about how this whole process of change originally started, what its trigger was and I came to the conclusion that the biggest part of it has been starting a Yoga practice.
I went through some more or less difficult times and i remember how I really craved a way to destress, to get out of my thoughts and back into just being – at that time, of course, I did not actively knew that I was craving this but obviously part of my did and this let me to yoga.
My mother has always been one of those spiritual touched people and she had some books on yoga for starters, so one day I grabbed those books and just started imitating what the people in the pictures were doing. I’m pretty sure this looked funny.
But nevertheless – it worked. I started getting calmer and calmer, being more and more at peace and I also began listening to myself, my intuition. Of course my state was nothing compared to where I am now, and where I am now will be nothing compared to where I will be one day & also there were many downfalls, times where I did get off track, felt bet into old patterns and it took my time to get back into it – but I honor every state of my journey and am beyond thankful for this, I know that everything happened as it was meant to be, that I am on the right path.
I started learning more about yoga, breathing techniques, meditation, awareness & consciousness and of course – mindfulness.
I read books about it, listened to podcasts, talked to other people who share those interests, watched youtube videos and documentaries and really got deep into this whole topic. After some time I went vegan, which I am sure also contributed to all of this. I felt deep inside of me this comfort, this knowing that I am doing the right thing and that everything is working out as it is meant to be.
What I am trying to tell you with this story of mine is that yoga really has the power to change ones life.
Of course many factors came into this, I didn’t stop by yoga – I implemented more and more things into my life and the collaboration of those things really made the difference in the end. But i always keep in mind what started this progress, what triggered my evolution. And this was and will always be yoga.
But even if you stay with yoga and don’t consider implementing the other things – this too is going to make a huge difference. Yoga teaches you to focus on yourself, to stop your thinking mechanism, to listen to your body & soul, to calm down and find peace. It helps you to get to know yourself – body, mind and spirit. Practicing yoga is a wonderful way to practice self care and self love, a way to destress and find back to yourself. Yoga is a way to heal yourself – inside-out.
Try it out and feel and experience the difference on your own!
There are many resources to do this, the first that comes to your mind will be taking courses – which I just started doing recently but can absolutely recommend. I always thought it’s enough to learn and practice on your own, but doing yoga instructed by a teacher together with like-minded people is such a beautiful experience.
Still, for the last 2 years I practiced yoga on my own in my lovely bedroom. By imitating what I saw on instagram, youtube and by reading books about it. It really is not that difficult as long as you focus on doing all poses as instructed so that you won’t hurt yourself.
