In our society fitting in and being the same as everyone else while still trying to be individual seems like something all of us are trying to achieve at some point in their lives.
Today I am talking about a theme that matters to me a lot because I experienced the struggle of it on myself for several years.
I really hope to open your eyes to this and give you the strength to finally be yourself, act like yourself and go your own way – no matter what family, friends, teachers and so many other people are trying to tell you!
I will first tell my story so you will eventually understand from which point I am coming. When I started High-School I really struggles a lot with fitting in. I just weren’t like those other girls. And this was not something that could be overlooked, I can’t really explain why but spending time with them wasn’t something that made me feel good and I pretty sure it was the other way around.
But sadly, instead of just going my own way and maybe finding someone like me I just tried really hard to fit in. Trying to look the same, wear the same clothes, have the same hobbies – and so on. Looking back I really don’t know how I could go with this for years.
It was not until 1-2 years ago that I finally started accepting myself more and more and stopped trying to fit in. Before this happened I came to this stage were I tried to be extremely different to express my individuality, something many young girls do and which is – looking back – absolutely senseless. Trying to fit in and trying to be extremely different are both things that will never make you happy. The only thing really fulfilling you will be being 100% yourself, not matter what.
Why do we try so hard to fit in?
In one sentence – we want to be liked and admired, by everyone.
The Problem in our society is that people are mostly only accepted if they match the norm. Their are certain things which are socially accepted (called normal) and other things which are not. This starts with parents telling their kids to not spend time with Amy from next door because she wears strange clothes or got this pink hair color.
People are no longer valued by their character – at least not in the first place. It is the way they look and what they do for a living what people value. Is she going to college ? Yes? – Fine. No? – She will never achieve anything with her life. Is she wearing normal clothes like anyone else – Yes? – Fine! No? – Why is she so strange? It is embarrassing. Why do we even care about what other people look like and do for a living?
I am pretty sure the Values in our society are completely set wrong. It is no longer the most important thing to be happy – it is important to be social acceptable. This is so sad, because people are actually giving up on things that would make them personally happy in order to do things that will make society happy.
Where is the point in making our society happy while personally being sad and not enjoying life?
Well, I get it. It is nice to be liked and admired, it feels good. But it will never feel as good as being yourself unconditionally, loving yourself and your life!get access to my free Resource Library!
You need to get clear about some things in order to really live your true way of being.
You need to find out who you really are. What your heart beats for – the things which set your heart on fire. Get clear about the things which make you so happy you could cry. What is your passion? Your purpose? What kind of person do you want to be & what kind of people do you want in your life?
Take your time to find out these things – there are great ways to do this:
- Spend a lot of time in Nature
- Get healthy
- Start Yoga
- Get away from the screen
- Take a social media break
- Journal your thoughts
- Read about Self Development
I know that those things don’t really sound like life changing experiences – but trust me, they do. Those are exactly the things I did, they brought me where I am now, sitting on my desk and writing this post for you so more and more people will start to live life to its fullest potential.
But how do you stop trying to fit in after finding who you are?
Just get clear about some things. This life is your life – only yours. And you will only get this life once, we don’t know if their will be life after this. So the only thing we know for certain is that we are here, right now, on this earth. We can do, be and achieve anything we want – anything. You need to realize how powerful this is, how amazing. It is a true miracle – how to you want to thank the Universe for this Miracle? Spending it pleasing others – society? Or do you want to show the Universe how much you love yourself, the you that the Universe created? I guess the right answer is pretty obvious. Pleasing everyone else but you will never make you happy, you will be wasting your time your entire life! And this thought alone is devastating! The only thing that is important on being yourself is to never harm another being. As long as you are not harming others, no one has the right to tell you to stop being yourself.get access to my free Resource Library!
Of course this won’t be an easy journey. You will need to constantly remind yourself why you are doing this. But I promise you from within my heart – every step, every challenge will be worth it in the end! Nothing will make your life more wonderful than living it exactly the way your Intuition and Heart tells you.
I really hope I could open you eyes a bit on this theme. If you want more Blogposts about this – tell me in the comments. If you got any questions – ask me in a email or the comments! Thank you a lot for reading this.
