If you don’t take care of yourself – who will?
Practicing Self Care is an important part of my day to day life. I will know explain to you why it is so important and how you can do this yourself!
Why is Self Care important:
- you won’t get the best out of yourself and your day if you don’t restore your energy
we can’t pour from an empty cup – take care of yourself first.
- your body/mind/soul is constantly telling you what it needs – you just need to listen
- your strength and power comes from within
you owe yourself the love you give so freely to other people.
- it builds the fundament for your ability to accomplish daily tasks
put yourself at the top of your priority list every single day and the rest will fall into place
- you can’t have good relationships with others, if the relationship to yourself is damaged.
Different categories of Self Care:
Self Care can be divided into different pars: Intellectual, Social, Physical, Spiritual, Emotional
This is about education, learning, personal growth.
You might read books, listen to podcasts, take online course – work on yourself & learn new things.
This it about the people you socialize with. It is important to surround yourself with supportive, uplifting, acceptive and positive people – people with who you can spend real quality time.
You might declutter your social surroundings, get to know new positive people and try to socialize on a regular basis that fits you well.
This is about your body, your health and how you take care of this.
Do you eat healthy? Workout on a regular basis? Get enough sleep and dring enough water? Can you manage stress? Do you see a doctor regularly to check if you are healthy (Blood tests, etc.)
You don’t need to belong to a specified religion, but by which values, believes and morals do you guide your living?
Nourish your soul, find your place in spirituality and meditate to connect to your inner being.
Well, obviously this is about your emotions – how and what you feel. Having a positive mindset, being passionate about what you do.
Practice kindness and compassion for yourself and others. Practice mindfulness!
How to practice Self Care:
I really like to sit down and write down my favorite self care practices for each category. Find out what you like to do, find out what makes you happy! Self Care won’t work if you do things just for the sake of Self Care, do it because it really makes you happy – because it really helps you.
Try to do something from each category every day. This is important! – else you won’t be able to keep the hard work going, trust me because I have been there.
I also love to set a day in every week where I just focus on myself. No socializing, no work – nothing. Every Sunday is my #SelfcareSunday! I sleep a bit longer, clean my apartment, juice fast, go jogging or take a walk, read a nice book, watch my favorite movie, drink lots of tea, take a hot bath and go to bed early. It just takes away any stress that filled myself from the last week and gets my ready for the following week!
The Benefits of Self Care:
- You will be calm and patient
- Have a lot more energy
- Increased happiness
- feel grounded
- less self doubt – confident in yourself
