“The distance between your dreams and reality is called action.”
We have all been at a point in our lives where we feel no motivation at all for whatever we are trying to accomplish. No matter if it is university, your job, working out or another personal project: you just feel as if you can’t keep going because of your lack of motivation.
So you sit on your couch saying “I will start (again) when I feel like it.”, which means, in other words: you are waiting for the motivation to come back so you can finally start working on your dream. If you think about it that way, aren’t you really wasting your time? Instead of waiting for this external source of motivation you could already be working on your goals, coming closer to them and creating your own inner source of motivation. Wouldn’t that be a better option?
More than once it happens that this “motivation” isn’t coming to you, not today, tomorrow and not even next month. So you sit around and around, wasting time and energy until you at some point completely give up on your goal because of your lack of motivation. If you’ve ever been at that point of starving your dreams with laziness and cheap excuses (waiting to be motivated) you most certainly know how frustrating this is.
Because in the end you know damn well if you had worked harder, you could already be at the finish line by now.
I found a nice way to describe this process, it is called “Pushing your inner snooze button.” Your alarm is ringing and ringing, telling you to start working, telling you to get up from the couch and finally take action. But you are pushing the snooze button over and over until the alarm eventually stops ringing completely, until you end up frustrated and uninspired.
Your problem is not that you don’t have ideas, you got many ideas & you know this. You don’t turn those ideas into your reality and this is your real problem, you don’t act on your ideas. You listen to them, you like them, you realize that you are “not motivated” to get up and so you end up pushing them away.
Take Action, no matter what. Taking action is like a domino effect. You do one thing and a hundred others things happen because of you taking the first step. And it is a very positive domino effect, because it is the effect of you realizing your dreams and goals. The moment you take action, motivation will find its way to you, why? Because motivation isn’t send to you from an mystic external source, motivation has it’s spring inside yourself and the moment you take action you set it free. Another beautiful thing will happen.. the moment you take action is close to the moment you start seeing results. Imagine how motivating it can be to see the fruits of your actions.
When an idea hits you, when you find out about this big goal you have in mind.. decide if you want to realize this. Do you want to write this book? Do you want to take this career path? Do you want to move in this city? Make a decision, a decision fueled by your inspiration and your inner desire of what you really want out of life. And then.. commit to this idea. Working on those big goals won’t always be easy, there will be times when it get’s though: that’s why it takes commitment to keep going no matter what.
You will never just wake up an feel like it. You need to start taking action the moment this idea/goal/dream hits you, just take one little step. Even if it is just writing it down, starting your research, making a plan. You need to make use of the energy that comes when ideas hit you because this energy won’t stay for long unless you start taking action.
Be clear about your goals, be so clear about your goals that you just can’t wait to take action, that you just can’t wait to see results and arrive at the finish line. Create a goal that makes you want to jump out of bed every morning because you can’t wait to act on it. Create a bulletproof Vision of where this journey is taking you!
