Waking up early is one of the most important features of a girlboss: read this blogpost to learn why
One of the best tips to wake up earlier is to go to sleep earlier. As I know that this is difficult for many people I put together 10 Tips that are really helpful to fall asleep early and wake up energized!
1) Plan your perfect Bedtime
To wake up energized it is important to get stable 7 – 8 hours of sleep! For me 7 hours a perfectly fine but this differs from person to person. So first of all: find out what works best for you. Then decide at what time you want to wake up and calculate your bedtime. ( wake up 7am – bedtime 11pm)
Also try to establish a regular sleep circle – waking out at 9am on day and the next day on 6am won’t work.
2) Have a calming Night Routine
Yeah, I know I am always talking about those damn routines, but really, they work! If you find out some good habits which calm your body, mind and soul it will be a lot easier to fall asleep.
3) Drink herbal tea
For me, camomille and lavender really work wonders. It calms my entire being. Go to your local shop and look through their tea – most of the time they got something like sleep tea. Try some out to see what works for you!
4) Exercise regularly
Jup, back to the sports, I know what you think. But working out will use your daily energy and you will be tired and ready to sleep at the end of the day instead of feeling wide awake because of left energy which has not been used. Try!
5) Watch your Food/Drink intake
Cut out Caffeine after 2pm, stop eating 3 hours before bed and no alcohol! It would stimulate your body and by that keep you from sleeping.
6) Get away from your screens
Stop working at least 3-4 hours before bedtime and stay away from all screens at least one hour before bed. The Blue Light will keep you from falling asleep. On some phones there is something like “Night Mode” which filters out the Blue Light – so if you really need to be on your phone , put it on night mode.
7) Calm your Body and Mind
Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) I don’t know if you have ever heard about this but it’s something I use nearly every night to unwind and most of the time i fall asleep while doing it – which is perfectly fine. Its a technique where you tense your muscles but only one at a time while breathing a certain way, it’s so relaxing. Just search for it on Youtube – there are lots of videos.
Fact: It also helps a lot if you got anxiety issues.
Meditation Also Meditation helps falling asleep later, I try to meditate at least 10 minutes every evening. Sit down, take slow and deep breath, I’m sure you have heard about this before.
Do some light Yoga There are lots of Yoga Sequences on Pinterest and Youtube which help you to get ready for sleep – try some out. It always helps me.
Take a Walk Going outside and getting some fresh air is the best thing to do after a stressful day. It’s important to get that stress out – if not it will keep you from falling asleep.
Warm shower Warm water on your body will make you comfortable and going straight to bed after this is maybe the best feeling ever.
Journal Writing down all your thoughts, emotions and worries at the end of the day will keep you from staying a wake all night thinking about those things. Also it will help understanding yourself and your feelings a lot better!
8) Listen to calming music
If you are like me music can really change your mood. So its just smart to use it! I love listening to Piano Music before going to sleep, it makes me feel completely calm.
9) Lavender Oil
Lavender is well known for its calming effects and for helping people fall asleep! For me it works but this really differs from person to person, if you hate the smell it obviously won’t work. Find this out for yourself.
10) Create the perfect sleep space
Make your bed Having a clean bed which looks nice will make you look forward to getting into it!
Darkness Try sleeping in complete darkness. Scientists found out that this helps reaching a deeper sleep and also falling asleep faster.
Fresh air + cold temperature Having fresh air in your sleep space and also cooling it a bit down will help you fall asleep easier.
